I’m guessing that your kids would like to have more money. They are probably continually asking for more allowance, or for you to buy them more clothes, toys, or something else that they want.
If you continue to hand money to your kids, they will keep asking. This can set up a bunch of negative habits. Your kids won’t learn to earn their money, and they could end up seeing you as a lifetime money source. This bad habit won’t go away until you break it. You also can’t really hope for a kids make money miracle - in order for this to work you will have to learn how to make money for kids.
When your kids want something that they do not have, it is an opportune moment for you to provide an invaluable education. Teaching them how to earn money and create income will not only take a financial burden off of you, it will provide them with confidence and business skills that will help them to have happy and stable lives.
Beginning this process might be stressing you out. What you should do at this point is come up with plenty of ways for kids to make money. That way, your kids can choose what they are the most interested in and it will be very exciting for them. The best plan for them will be different for each child and will depend heavily on their age, sex, and interests.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Bake Sale
Kids often love to cook, especially if they are baking brownies, cookies, cakes, or anything else that they would want to eat. They often can become very good at baking, if taught correctly. The trick here is to start by teaching them to cook one thing that other people enjoy, like chocolate chip cookies or brownies. This is a seriously outstanding ‘kids make money’ skill. :)
Once they have mastered the process of making good chocolate chip brownies or cookies, you can teach them to market their yummy treats. There are a lot of different approaches that can be used to sell cookies. One of the best methods is by going to neighborhood parks and sporting events. Your kids could also go door to door, giving free samples to anyone that answers. By giving a price sheet with the free sample, they can create future orders, which will of course be delivered.
Shoveling Walks
Shoveling walks can be an exceptional way for kids to make money, if you live in an area with snow. Many people (especially the elderly) aren’t capable of shoveling their own walks, and those who are capable don’t want to do it. This method will teach your kids to work hard, shoveling snow isn’t easy, but while learning how to make money for kids, you probably won’t see that many methods that aren’t.
The best way to sell walk shoveling is door-to-door. If your kids go around immediately after it snows they will find the most business. Leaving a flier with a phone number can help to get business in the future. This probably isn’t one of the easy ways for kids to make money, but a little hard work isn’t bad for the little guys!
Car Washing
Car washing is one of the best ways for kids to make money. Why? Because for many kids, it’s fun! The cost is also very minimal, which makes for a nice profit margin. People will pay $5 or more to get their cars washed, so if you can find a location where a lot of cars will be passing, your kids can make a killing. Make the car wash a weekly occurrence, and people will come back again and again. People (including myself) hate washing cars.
The key to marketing a car wash is getting a location where a lot of cars will pass by. You will of course also want to make a sign that can be place a few blocks away from the car wash. To create a little added interest, you could have your kids go around door-to-door to pass out fliers the morning of the car wash. People in the neighborhood will often come get their car washed just to support the kids.
Hopefully you have enjoyed these three ways for kids to make money. They can all turn into profitable, residual small businesses that will give your child a nice income and A LOT of confidence. :)
